Mariam Ayvazyan
Founder/Executive Coach and Licensed Psychotherapist
all about Mariam
A real and meaningful conversation. That’s what it feels like to work with Mariam. Born and raised in Armenia before moving to New York at age 11, Mariam brings a multicultural perspective to her work, blending Eastern and Western values in her approach. She is a licensed psychotherapist, executive coach, and founder of Achel Therapy, offering a unique integration of psychotherapy and coaching.
In addition to her clinical and coaching work, Mariam is an adjunct professor at NYU’s Master’s Program in the Applied Psychology Department and NYU Steinhardt, where she shares her expertise with future mental health professionals.
With a master’s in mental health counseling and an MBA, Mariam is passionate about helping individuals and organizations achieve transformative growth. She draws from years of experience guiding clients through diverse mental health challenges, including trauma, substance use, navigating life transitions, depression, and complex familial and relationship dynamics.
Mariam is trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts work and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), empowering her clients to address trauma, navigate challenges, and achieve emotional healing. Outside of therapy, she values creativity, human connection, and research—qualities that inform her practice and inspire her work.
how she works
Mariam’s approach is integrative and tailored to each client’s unique needs. She combines the deep insights of psychotherapy with the practical strategies of executive coaching, offering a holistic framework that addresses both emotional well-being and professional development.
In therapy, Mariam creates a safe and compassionate space for clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and personal history. Using IFS parts work and EMDR, she helps clients process past experiences, gain self-awareness, and develop coping skills to foster resilience and healing.
Mariam has a history of working with individuals navigating trauma, substance use, depression, and complex familial and relationship dynamics. While she meets clients where they are, she also believes that therapy shouldn’t always feel comfortable. Growth often comes from stepping outside of one’s comfort zone, and Mariam challenges clients appropriately to facilitate meaningful change.
As an executive coach, Mariam works with individuals and teams to enhance leadership capabilities, improve communication, and navigate organizational challenges. Through evidence-based coaching techniques, she supports executives in cultivating a high-performance mindset, making effective decisions, and managing conflict with confidence.
Whether you’re seeking personal growth, professional excellence, or a combination of both, Mariam’s collaborative and thought-provoking approach helps clients unlock their potential, navigate complexity, and build a thriving, resilient future.
